The seven soul types: what do they look like?

seven-soul-heads
I’ve been adding some pictures to my pages about the seven soul types (as described in the Michael teachings). Specifically, I’ve done seven facial caricatures to show what each one tends to look like (at least to me), highlighting and exaggerating the main features — the Scholar’s prominent brow, for example, and the Priest’s intense eyes.

Below I’m showing them all together on one page, with a number of famous faces as representative examples in each case.

Now, I’ll readily admit that it’s quite easy to find exceptions to the rule. Yes, you can probably point to a famous Priest soul incarnation who looks nothing like the Priest ‘stereotype’ shown below. Fair cop. Not all Priests have definite almond-shaped heads. But I see this is as a general approximation, a pattern, not a hard-and-fast rule.

And of course, head/face shapes will vary according to body size. Going by shape alone, for example, a Sage who is small in stature like Miley Cyrus looks a bit like an Artisan.

— a d v e r t i s e m e n t —

But that’s just the shape. You can still spot the Sage in Miley Cyrus because a Sage’s face has also a firm, elastic and shiny quality (as it’s always on the move) while an Artisan’s tends to be soft and very ‘composed’.

And in the Sage’s case, of course, the motor-mouth is always a dead giveaway!

You have to look at the whole package — not just shapes but also tones and movements.

See what you think.

Servers are gentle, genial souls. Facially, they often characterised by a rounded head, sometimes potato-shaped, with soft, sagging features and smallish, tired-looking eyes. Rounded shoulders are also typical.

The Server’s baseline expression varies between one of sorrowful pity (when they focus on the common woes of life, like Mother Teresa) and sweet, innocent cheerfulness (when they focus on serving the common good, like the Dalai Lama). But either way, there is a basic vibe of harmlessness.

Typical traits: accommodating, caring, modest, dedicated, unassuming, homely, downtrodden, melancholic.

Artisans tend to have heart-shaped or cup-shaped faces, together with a dreamy, unfocused, faraway look in their eyes. Where Sages have a bright and mischievous twinkle in the eyes, Artisans have softly lit pools, portals into their mysterious inner worlds.

Their facial expression tends to look very composed, as though they were sitting for a portrait (indeed, many models are Artisans). The mood of the expression can vary between a carefree childlike playfulness (think of chef Jamie Oliver) and a look of being lost half-asleep in dreams or deep thoughts, as though studying mental images (as Einstein frequently was).

Artisans have a habit of creating a striking image for themselves which both attracts attention and at the same time serves as an outer façade behind which they can hide. This includes a tendency to go for distinctive hairstyles and clothes.

Typical traits: inventive, imaginative, innovative, fanciful, idiosyncratic, flaky, ditzy.

Warriors look distinctly solid and physical, tough, firm-skinned, perhaps leathery, and very much at home in their bodies. The head-shape can be quite straight, a bit like a jar.

Like Kings, Warriors tend to be hard and angular, but the telling features are the low eyebrows and the ready-for-action expression which varies between “Yeah, let’s do this!” and “Nobody screw with me!”

Typical traits: forceful, assertive, loyal, combative, feisty, determined, ruthless, vicious.

Scholars tend to look intelligent but somewhat unexpressive and socially detached. They usually have a large, flat forehead and relatively hollow, deadpan features. The mouth is naturally shut rather than open. In contrast to the Sage, the Scholar’s face looks like it isn’t used much for expressiveness.

The eyes can look deep-set, partly because the Scholar’s attention is usually somewhere inside their brain rather than out there where the action is, and partly because the prominent brow can overhang the eyes, adding to the Scholar’s thinking-rather-than-doing look.

With Scholars, it’s all happening inside the head; their mind is always busy processing, absorbing, learning. Overall, I would say Scholars have a look of interested detachment.

Typical traits: curious, knowledgeable, analytical, dry, pedantic, detached, aloof.

Sages’ facial features are often unusually big, open and elongated or elasticated, perhaps even cartoon-like. In addition, they often have a twinkle of mischievous merriment in the eyes, as though itching to tell a joke or share some scandalous gossip.

The face is a key means of expression and the Sage’s face is always ‘on’. Their cheeks tend to be a prominent feature, rounded from lots of smiling and joking. The whole face is like an inflated balloon.

Young-soul Sages are all eyes and teeth with their big, sparkly smiles. Old-soul sages like Osho are more mellow and look like, well, happy sages.

Typical traits: expressive, eloquent, witty, entertaining, gregarious, flamboyant, attention-seeking, loud, verbose.

Priests tend to have almond-shaped heads, and cat-like eyes that point forwards very directly. I’ve also noticed that the eyes can sometimes seem ‘upside-down’, with the upper lid being more open than the lower. Also with Priests, the corners of the mouth often look sharply pointed.

The Priestly facial expression suggests a strongly felt desire to make things right or better. This typically varies between one of stern disapproval (when they focus on what’s presently wrong with the world as they see it) and rapturous enthusiasm (as they focus on realising some higher potential).

The Priest’s gaze often has an inflamed, hypnotic intensity which can look strikingly beautiful — or strikingly sinister, depending on where the Priest is coming from.

Typical traits: fervent, visionary, hope-inspiring, earnest, uplifting, preachy, sanctimonious, fanatical.

Kings tend to be distinguished by a solid-looking block-like head with ‘meaty’ or ‘granite’ features. There is often a broad, muscular, well-defined jawline.

The face reveals a self-assured, commanding expression with a very masculine look of authority that says “I know exactly what I’m doing,” — the flip-side of which is a scary, withering look that says “You don’t know what the hell you’re doing, do you?” Or as Simon Cowell often says: “What the bloody hell was that?”

Typical traits: commanding, masterful, self-assured, decisive, harsh, autocratic, imperious, intolerant.

  1. This is very fascinating! I will have to look into this further. You might also enjoy another great read on spirituality by Carol Marleigh Kline called, “Streetwise Spirituality,” which incorporates many common-sense insights from psychology to help you get a handle on what may hold you back. I found it to be very inspiring and unlike any other book I’ve read on the subject.

  2. Great post. Very interesting. Let me guess, are you a priest? Perhaps with a scholar casting? I could be partial because I’m a priest 🙂

    • Ha! I wondered if that mysterious light and shadow made me look a bit too enigmatic.
I am drawn to some Priestly things, like spirituality, but basically … let’s just say I would rather study Priests than be one.

  3. Christopher Walken is a perfect example. Now I’m confused as to if I’m a Scholar or Artisan ever since I read your article about MJ being a possible incarnation of Bach (large, childlike eyes, etc).

Your prototypes are interesting, and a bit creepy. The King looks sooo mean.

    Reply
    • You mean Mozart (MJ reincarnation).
Bach was a Scholar and looks like one – big brain, dry expression.

    • I just saw your response. Yes, they are all creepy. Steve Buscemi is one of my favorites and so is Walken.

I find this soo interesting (especially since you added more pictures). I’ll be stopping by the bookstore tomorrow on my way home after class.

    • I saw on the blog that Prince William was labeled a mature Scholar and I do agree with that! Kate Middleton, according to her facial features, lifestyle, reputation etc., definitely seems to me like a mature King soul:)

She is a really fascinating person(since King soul is rare, especially in women) my intuition was confirmed when I compared her not-smiling pictures with the King face-shape.

    • I can’t tell yet if she’s king or scholar. Seems to have both the firmness of one and the dryness of the other. Should become clearer as she gets older.

    • Interesting. You’re right about me being very nice but not about me being an Artisan, though I do have a creative flair and I’m married to one.

Maybe it’s a poor picture, so here are some clues.

      I’m generally quiet and introspective.
My prominent facial feature is my forehead.
My house is full of books (non-fiction).
I’m more of a thinker than a doer.

    • that is true,it is obvious that the writer of the blog is a Scholar, Priest also, I think. thanks for ur blog by the way, it is very interesting,I’ve learned through it that I am an Artisan King(i’m a girl) and maybe because of that I might be considering now to start an art-oriented business empire on the real world or the internet.I didnt know b4 that I could be a leader in art:) Inside me there is always a battle between confidence and self-doubt.

    • Hi Katerina

Yes, I would definitely say Artisan. Aside from the eyes and facial expression, the hairstyle is a giveaway!

      Cheers

  4. I knew it! 😀 and do you think i’m artisan? Still not sure if I am because I could be priest (since I want help other people by inspiring them with animation or novel).

    Reply
    • Well, you could be a Priestly Artisan. There are subtypes as well as the seven main types. I’m a Sage-type Scholar, for example. I’m a typically quiet Scholar, but in a room full of Scholars I’m the gregarious one. My wife is a Priest-type Artisan and she feels driven to apply her imagination and inventive impulse in an inspiring way. And her expression is similar to yours!

  5. Barry, thanks for this clearly-written explanation of the Michael teaching – very valuable, great graphics.

  6. Great information! Although, I would definitely pick you barry as a priest. Your eyes do have an intensity to them at first glace but upon second impression I do see the sense of detachment and neutrality. I want you to take a look at my mug shot, and see if you can guess mine. I was channeled, and I agree with my overleaves but my role however doesn’t seem right. ((hint sage ET, much bleed through, and scholar casting, with warrior secondaries))

    • Hi Wyatt. Hmm.. Difficult to get someone from a single shot as it’s hard to tell what’s consistently “you” and what’s just accidental in this photo. The photo seems to have been taken with the camera pointing to the ceiling and you directly over it, which could mean that your face is hanging in a slightly unusual (uncharacteristic) way. But for what it’s worth… My first thought when I saw the eyes and cheeks was Artisan. But … the more I look at it, the more I see Priest. But if I saw a few other photos I might have a different sense.

      – barry

    • My sense is Priestly (6th cast) Warrior. I don’t see any Scholar, Sage or Server. King is a possibility but the eyes are missing a certain firmness. So I’m leaning to Warrior with Priest or possibly Artisan overtones. And goal of growth?

    • I was channeled a server, but my inclination is priest. I love giving therapy, and advice, and the more I age the more I just seem to fit the mold a priestly figure. I have a goal of acceptance and I’ve been told I was very easy to talk too, and very accepting of others.
I have heavy martial(Aries) influence in my astrology(moon&mars) as well as a secondary casting giving me a strong warrior aura I believe but I’m a bit soft and sensitive with too much compassion to have a bigger influence then that. My thirst for knowledge is what makes it clear to me that I have a primary scholar casting though.

  7. I would say Barry that you are a artisan and a scholar…. these two are the first two words that came into me..

Personal I’m a seventh stage old soul priest/warrior.

At first glance, I thought you looked more like a artisan just because of your features and the shape of your face (boyish and heart-shaped), but looking into your eyes I definitely see the neutral gaze of a scholar!

Maybe mode of Observation, attitude of Realist? Ten previous grande cycles?

    • Hi Achan

I get nervous whenever I’m asked to do this – so easy to get it wrong from a single photo. So, assume all the usual caveats….

Given your tapered jaw-line, tapered eyes, tapered mouth, lively expression, I would assume Priest. In fact you remind me of a young Marianne Williamson.

      And possibly a Sagey-Priest?

I’m actually an Idealist, which probably accounts for the childlike look about me. Here is my full set:
5th-level Mature Scholar, 5th cast, 1st Cadence, 3rd Entity, Attitude of Idealist, Goal of Growth, Mode of Perseverance, Primary Centre = Emotional (2ndary = Moving) Chief Feature = Impatience (2ndary = Self-Deprecation). Essence Twin = Scholar (I think it’s my son), Task Companion = Artisan (no plans to meet up). Life task = “To accumulate knowledge in a spirit of joy, and share it in the guise of play”.

      – barry

    • Ok, maybe I saw “Observation” because you are a scholar…and I got “Realist” wrong, too. lol Oh, well.

I believe I’m a 6th level Mature Priest. I actually bumped up a level in this lifetime! My interests changed, even my taste in music. I went from liking interesting, off-beat songs to more harmonious, romantic tunes. I also chose my current major in college after this shift.

My chief features are the same–Primary feature of Impatience and Secondary of Self-Deprecation. Ironically, I get very impatient with myself and my life, but because I’ve become convinced that I won’t be very good at whatever I apply myself to, I’ve developed a bad habit of procrastinating and then frantically doing the work at the last minute. I’m grateful for discovering this through the Michael Teachings so that I can take steps to change it. I’m trying to be more proud of myself and my accomplishments. Do you find that your impatience and self-deprecation ever overlap as well?

I have a goal of Flow and I believe my Essence Twin is another Priest. Not sure about the other overleaves. A medium told me that I was a priest, and I’ve figured out the rest through muscle testing and my own intuition, seeing what “fit.”

    • My goal is Growth – I yearn to move into new experiences the whole time. My CF of Impatience causes me to resent any delay, anything that holds me in the present instead of cruising into the next experience of my choosing. I have a particularly hard time with inanimate objects like cups and saucers which refuse to obey my will and won’t simply fly into their proper places on the shelves – instead they obey the law of gravity and fall crashing to the floor. My Self-Deprecation tells me – internally, constantly – that it’s all because I’m not good enough. If I was a better person, nothing would ever hold me up!
Yeah, it’s a pretty horrible combination – but aren’t they all!?!
      – barry

  10. Yes, it’s strange how Impatience and Self Deprecation seem to go so well together. It’s hard not to beat ourselves up if things don’t turn out exactly how we wanted, and as quickly as possible, at that!

Thank you so much for interpreting my role! I wasn’t sure what my caste was…I had the feeling that I was a Sage, but I took your quiz and the second most ticky-ed boxes were for the Artisan role. And it’s nice to hear confirmation that I am a Priest!

  11. Greetings Barry, I’ve recently discovered this site and I must say, in my case, it’s practically revolutionary – I’ve held beliefs akin to those summarised on this site throughout the entirety of my life yet I’ve never come across anything to explain it or back it up. I’ve always been a highly spiritual person, however. It’s such a fulfilling way of life, set of beliefs etc. and I thank you on behalf of thousands including myself for expanding so many peoples’ knowledge on that.

I so look forward to deepening my spiritual understanding and exploring my own consciousness and using the information I discover to better my own life and the lives of others. 🙂

Aaaaanywho, you’re a dead-set scholar, very obvious that one. 😛

I however am a tad confused as to what I may be. I see a few different elements of each type in my face (except I see nothing priestly, scholarly or warrior-like). I feel like I’m dominantly Artisan. Do you think I might be right?

    • Hi Mollie and thanks so much for those kind words. I’m always glad when people get something from my website.

Hmm, yes you are tricky one to get from those photos. I am leaning in two directions: (1) Artisan, though admittedly that’s based largely on the variety of clothes! (2) Scholar, judging by the relatively neutral expression (at least in pics 1 and 3) plus i get a sense of solid weight or density behind the eyes (pic 1) that is typical of Scholars. It’s always bard to judge from face alone, however, and i wouldn’t want to misdirect you with wrong information, so I would recommend you take my soul type quick test at Quibblo.com:

  12. Thanks a bunch Barry! I had taken the test prior to my asking you and got Artisan, and while I overlooked the Scholarly aspects of my facial composition, I found I do posess in my personality, and intellectually speaking, many qualities found in Scholars, such as having an analytical, pragmatic and never-stopping mind while still being highly creative and expressive (and emotional, heh). A Scholarly Artisan, haha 🙂

My boyfriend’s definitely a sage. He has bright, expressive eyes, a dazzling pearly-toothed smile and chubby chipmunk cheeks and his mouth makes it appear like he constantly has the pout of a 5 year old that didn’t get the toy he wanted at Toys R’ Us. That and his nature is very Sagely. Some people are definitely easier to pick than others, huh?

As for finding out what stage you’re at, well that’s a lot harder to figure out for yourself, I’d definitely be interested in contacting a medium in time in regards to information of that ilk and that of overleaves. It’s all highly fascinating.

Your website’s now found a position among my coveted favourites. Kudos! 😀

Interestingly, my wife and I figured out that our 9 year old must be either a Scholarly Artisan or an Artisanly Scholar bases on his looks and interests. We then got a reading from a Michael channel (Terri Benning in this case) and it came back as Artisanly Scholar. Good verification. The surprise was that he’s 3rd level old, making him easily the oldest soul in our family!

      Cheers

    • Not at first – he was very anxious when born. But by about 3 or 4 he started to surprise us with his ability to look us straight in the eyes and meaningfully express love. Now, he is more emotionally mature and self-assured at 9 going on 10 than I was in my twenties!

  13. Hello Barry,
Your website is really awesome and has kept me thinking ever since I had laid my eyes on it.
Can you please help me figure out what soul type I am or my face looks like? Here is a snap: http://s1177.photobucket.com/albums/x356/krystaindia/?action=view&current=00192e19.jpg

Your kind assistance will be highly appreciated.Thanks.

    • Hi Krysta!

I replied by email but not sure if you received it. Anyway, I’m really glad you like the website.

I have to start with the usual caveat – face structure is one type of information, and often it isn’t even the best one. Some people are obvious, some are more “average” and hard to make out. With young people it’s additionally hard because often the face is not yet fully showing the true character.

The photo you link to is not the easiest one to see you with – it’s quite grainy and obscured by text! Ideally I would prefer to see a few. I have also looked at your (very nice) profile shot on Facebook and it’s tempting to say that I see a solidity to you that could suggest King. On the other hand, the faraway look in your eyes and the creativity you put into your photos are usually clear signs of an Artisan. For a King, I would expect to see more of a focused, determined look. But as I said, it’s not so easy with a couple of photos like this. Do you have any others – clear shots of your head/face, preferably not posed?

    • Hey Barry,
Thanks for your response. Here is another snap: http://s1177.photobucket.com/albums/x356/krystaindia/?action=view&current=cb931372.jpg for you. Hope this will be more helpful.

I understand snaps are not an easy way to judge one’s soul type. Let me be of some help by describing some of my facial features. I have a pointed face which is sort of oblong-shaped. My forehead has horizontal thought-lines, which is not quite usual for a teenager, eyebrows slope inwards most of the time, somewhat prominent jaw-lines,sometimes dreamy eyes(when being introspective) and sometimes don’t-mess-with-me look when situation demands.

I am mostly oblivious, stick to being myself to such an extent that people do actually wonder(some have told me) whether I am from another planet. I defy most rules of society only when logic fails them and not to just be a rebel like most teenagers do. I sure love knowledge and usually remain peaceful unless people violate my principles of life. I tend to get arrogant and short-tempered, and love to control people by playing with their predictable psychological actions. I love pondering on abstract ideas- like origin of universe, validity of existence of god, afterlife etc etc. I catch a lot of attention wherever I go, but do not intend that. And I feel lies are for cowards and consider myself brave and straightforward enough to be honest and truthful.

That’s all for now. Does that, in any minute way, confuse things up more?

    • Hi Krysta, and sorry it has taken me a while to get back.
That’s a pretty rich description you give, and while some of it may point to this or that soul or personality type, other bits could probably apply to just about any average teenager. So here are my thoughts…
Your creativity is very Artisan, but there is a hard edge or thrust to your face and behaviour which do suggest either King or Warrior (OR that you are an Artisan with a goal of Dominance). Not many people would say “I love to control people”. Defying illogical rules… Peaceful unless… Brave and straightforward… These are key attributes of a Warrior. Hmmm… How do resonate with Warrior, maybe with Artisan as secondary? Probably Mature or Old. Sorry I can’t be more specific!

  14. Thanks.

Umm, can you please provide me with a link that can quiz me or provide a more vivid description about “Warrior, maybe with Artisan as secondary”, “an Artisan with a goal of Dominance”, “Mature or Old”? It would help me to reach a proper conclusion if I had an idea what traits these categories of soul/personality have. Thanks again.

    • Except for this part,”Such souls tend to see life in terms of confrontations and rising to the challenge. There are causes to serve, struggles to be overcome, battles to be won. They like to be on the front line with their trusted comrades, and strongly value both courage and loyalty.” the Warrior traits hardly make any sense for me.

In fact, after going through the articles, I am presently having a strong feeling that I look and act like none but an Artisan. With a goal of Growth. Perhaps that’s where the “Such souls tend to see life in terms of confrontations and rising to the challenge” comes in. Technically that’s exactly what the INTP-type from the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator describes ME to be. So logically (though to me, Soul= Cognitive Features/Ability) this conclusion is valid.

And finally, about the soul age- that’s the only confusing thing in my mind. First, to me,my own perspective is the only right thing and my self-interest is all-important- both of which have been tagged as a trait of Young souls.

But then I see this: “Mature souls can have sophisticated, avant-garde or post-modern sensibilities, but in private they may struggle with basic emotional issues. Because life is now all about optimising one’s relationships with anything and everything, mature souls can find life to be intensely complex and stressful, filled with emotional turmoil, sometimes overwhelmingly so. Inner conflict is very common.” True for me but guess what, that’s a Mature soul syndrome!

And then this: “Doing their own thing, old souls end up pursuing nothing but their own path whilst allowing others to pursue theirs, just perfecting their own abilities, being themselves in life to the best that they can.”- Old soul trait. But so very me!

      Requesting immediate aid! 😀

    • 🙂 Ha! Ok, this suggests to me that I need to clarify some of my descriptions.

That said, it is probably worth mentioning a few other things.

First, soul age traits blend into one another. There is no sudden jump from one stage to the next. For example, a soul at the beginning of the Mature stage will show a blend of mostly Young soul and fewer Mature soul traits – highly competitive / ambitious but also a little sensitive / introspective.

The same is true of the soul types – you could, for instance, be primarily an Artisan but with a secondary essence of Warrior. Or vice versa. In my case, by way of example, I am primarily a Scholar (I love to study and learn stuff) but my secondary nature is Sage – I love to communicate what I have learned. An Artisan loves to design/create/invent; a Warrior-Artisan would do so with a forceful, challenging or confrontational flavour. A Warrior loves to confront and challenge; an Artisan-Warrior would do so in a creative, inventive way.

BTW, have you tried my soul type quiz at Quibblo:

      http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/atufj3C/Discover-Your-Soul-Type

Second, your personal age also comes into this. As we grow up, we “adopt” traits from those around us – our family, our school mates, our culture. For example, an Old soul growing up in a Young soul family in a predominantly Young soul town will tend to act similarly ambitious, competitive and materialistic at first. An Artisan who is born into a family of Warriors serving in the military and who is educated in a military school will tend to act more like a Warrior at first. (Although the real Warriors will probably spot some sort of difference, such as his/her wild imagination.)

But around mid-life (35-40 ish) our true soul age and soul type start making themselves known quite forcibly. This is the process Jung called individuation – shedding our false personality traits, fully identifying with who we really are and becoming who we can be. It can be a difficult process – it can mean letting go of deeply ingrained habits and assumptions (3 or 4 decades of fitting in). An Artisan, for example, might quit the army to become a poet.

What this all points to is simply that it can be hard to pinpoint yourself when you’re young in age. It takes considerable self-knowledge and being able to honestly distance yourself from your habits and assumptions.

As a 20-year old, for example, I would have assumed that I was a Young Artisan because I was so fixated on being ruthlessly successful through some sort of creative medium. But that was what I was picking up from my culture. None of it was particularly true to who I really am. Only in my 30s and 40s did my Mature and Scholar nature come blatantly into the foreground of my self-awareness.

Third, another thing I have noticed is that many people (myself included) will readily agree with the traits of a stage higher … in principle. For example, I totally resonate with the deep autonomy and wisdom of the Old soul, but really I only resonate with the fact that I understand it, not that I live it. I might be tempted to say, “Yes that resonates for me. Therefore I’m an Old soul.” Whereas in fact, I am not LIVING like an Old soul at all – I am 50 years old now, I have excellent self-knowledge, but I live very definitely as a later-stage Mature soul. So you can read about an upper stage and get it “in theory”, but living it “in practice” is a different matter. That’s where we are evolving to – that’s the challenge we each face.

Finally, the Old soul trait of “doing your own thing” can sound a bit like Young soul independence AND teenage independence.
Now I’m not saying any of this to try and convince you that you’re not an Old soul or whatever. I just mean that it is “normal” to recognise a variety of traits in yourself and it is hard to pinpoint yourself accurately until you really get to know yourself in action.

OK, I’ve probably confused you even more now! I’ll just let you mull it over but do feel free to ask more questions.

  15. Hey Barry,

I just found your site; it’s excellent! Having been a graduate in psychology myself, and loving experiential psyc especially, I find the topics you cover on here to be immensely fascinating! I’ve always been a “spiritual” person, yet I very much dislike religion. I read through your descriptions of each type and had a good idea of which one I was. I even decided to take your test to confirm, too. Anyhow, with that said, I’ll ask you: Which type do you see me as? I uploaded a few pictures of myself and would love to have your expertise on the matter (forgive the photos where I didn’t shave! lol):

  16. Hi, Barry —

I found your site today by way of a link someone posted to your article concerning the thirty-five steps of soul evolution. I’ve more or less been wandering around since I first arrived, taking in things a little at a time.

I remember being told as a child that I am an “old soul”. Whether or not that is the case, I can certainly say there are days when I’m simply tired in ways that don’t have any words. I don’t really talk about it much; I figure since I’m here, tired or not, I have something to accomplish.

I find the concept of roles intriguing. I don’t yet know whether I’ve an idea of my own. Your quiz suggests that I am an Artisan, which would fit in many respects; perhaps that is in fact the case. I have a variety of artistic interests: writing (21 years); singing (29 years); drawing (off and on for about… 16 years); photography (12 years… I guess); playing piano (9 years of lessons and off/on playing since); and fairly recent forays into wood carving/ burning and pottery/sculpting. I have varying knacks for each of these; my most prominent interest and means of communication is my writing. I think of it as my magic. That’s one of the reasons the “soul evolution” idea drew me, in fact — I have composed an essay detailing my own ideas which I started in my freshman year of college and finished seven years later. I called it “Evolution Through Vibration”.

There are factors, however, which may or may not not so congruent –the most apparently significant of which is that I have chosen to make spiritual service my focus for this lifetime. I have felt so compelled since I can remember, and the trait is one I have actually seen pass down the maternal line through three successive generations of my current biological family (the third being to me, with the previous two being an aunt and my Nana).

Another of these factors is my “empathic” ability. I don’t know how to articulate it completely. It’s not something that is limited to a sense of emotion, though I’ve had the experience of becoming physically ill when in proximity to someone suffering trauma. It’s also a matter of sensing… “essentials” about people, I guess, which enables me to gauge my approach to each individual I meet. I’ve had it absent for short periods of my life…. but on every so occasion, I feel as though I am seeing the world as though populated by paper dolls. It’s as though I am blind, and my surroundings somehow lack vitality. Yet it is not accompanied by any energetic visual, at least not historically — despite my aforementioned interests in photography and drawing, I have extreme difficulty with visualizing. I interpret and communicate patterns instead.

I’ve included a link to a picture of myself, should you wish to make a guess as to my type. It’s a bit older than I like, but it’s the best closeup I have of myself. I hope it will be sufficient!

    • Hi Leanna

      Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, you look like an Artisan to me. Possibly late Mature or early Old at a guess. And the determined expression suggests a goal of Dominance, though it is always hard to come to a valid conclusion from just one photo.

Perhaps you are a Priestly Artisan, like my wife, given your orientation to spiritual service. (All of the seven main soul types have seven sub-types, which affect the emphasis of the main type. I am a Scholar, but my sub-type is Sage, so I gather together information but with an emphasis on sharing wit and wisdom.) My wife, an Artisan with Priest sub-type has a natural instinct for creating, but always with an emphasis on serving the higher good. Does that resonate for you?

Evolution Through Vibration – I like the sound of that!

      Barry

    • Thanks, Barry. 🙂

I will think on it and wander around a bit more, but I can readily agree that the sub-type appears likely. I’ve felt very resonant connections with individuals you list in both categories throughout my life — Einstein, Poe, Monroe, Christ, and Whitman are a few examples. As for the goal of Dominance…. I’ve just looked at in and am finding that I need to let it settle first, see if it fits. It either explains a lot I’m not yet ready to articulate or I need to post another photo. Of course, I *was* born on Julius Caesar’s birthday. 😛

In case of the latter, here’s my deviantART page. I don’t know whether that photo will stand as a useful addition, but I figure it’s worth a shot, if you’ll pardon the (lame) pun.

      http://poeticvine.deviantart.com/

The ID portion is located on the upper right of the page. It may not be the best picture to use; please let me know if you’d prefer something with a better angle/light/etc.

Interestingly, that same section contains this quote from an essay I wrote a while ago:

” ‘Yet my mind, my proclivity to description, to delving the deepest and highest possibilities of language in order to make some small attempt, however inherently limited, at describing my daily life exists as something beyond the purely physical. It is not purely biological. Nor is it purely mental or emotional. Rather, it is spiritually driven in a way that I am spiritually driven to survive, to create, to give birth to things greater and more lasting than myself, to populate an entire world with words of my own design and, in so doing, allow and enable others to do the same without fear.’ ”

Yeah, I think the Priest subtype fits. Given the last couple of lines, I could see the Dominance as well. I’ll mull over it, as I said.

      Blessings,
      Leanna

    • Yes, well, there is that, too. ^_^ I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to tell much from the photo. 🙂 Thank you!

    • Leanna – Reading your comment, I had to recount if I had written this ever because it sounded like I was reading about myself. I am artistic in that I sing, dance, learned piano, some stage work, wrote a book, but I have a priestly base to all that I do. I have to do something artistic in the performing arts, but it has to be for the greater good of mankind, healing and helping in some way. The arts seems to come from somewhere deep within the soul, and the spiritual seems to be more of this lifetime lessons and work. AND I, too, am empathic. I feel what others feel, I know things about others before they know. I feel, physically, and take on the energy of others and of environments. Very interesting to read your writing. I have an oval face… so fitting for a Priest. Peace.

  17. wow i found that amazing im a sage and i connected with that type as soon as i saw it andwhen i took the quiz and found my type i was surprised that the one i conneted with the most was what i was im still very young but i would like to think i am ver in touch with my soul and i am a preformer i play instremements write books and sing do drama ect. so im pleased i like i said would like to think im in touch with my soul i think im an older soul theres no way im young but wisdom of an older soul always comes at a price so i guess i must continue to learn and unlock the wisdom i have earned over these lives thank you though you have gven me allot to think about.

    • Hi angel

Well, to be honest I am torn between Sage and Artisan. If Artisan, you seem relatively outgoing and warm so I would probably assume that you have a goal of Acceptance too. But for the same reason, Sage is definitely a possibility. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but at least we’ve narrowed it down to two! As I have told a number of people, it actually becomes easier to figure out as you get older. Have you tried the test?
      http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/atufj3C/Discover-Your-Soul-Type

      Cheers

    • Oh! thank you so much for your reply… i tried the test but it is not always consistent… one time sage another time artisan… i am soo much in between the two. i guess it is the influence of the goals???…maybe i’ll just be wait and see till i get a little older.

      as for you… i guess you are a scholar… 😀

    • Yes it is!
      No you’re not!

You will have a primary type as your main type, plus a secondary that shapes how you express your primary nature. (In my case, i am essentially a Scholar but my secondary type is Sage – as Scholars go, I am rather witty and extravert.)

You can also have personality traits that echo different types – the goal of dominance, for example, echoes the King role.

    • I am rather sweet natured, but I think that’s due to me being a mature soul with emotional centering, and in a happy relationship. 🙂

    • Yeah, I would totally agree with that mixture (primary = Scholar, secondary = Server). It’s interesting how some faces are much easier to get than others.
      cheers,
      B

    • Thanks Christine, glad you like it.

Having watched your video as well as studied your photos, I am actually thinking Artisanly Priest. It seems to me your primary thrust is uplifting others, and you are doing so with a very creative twist, rather than vice versa. The Priest’s dramatic presence in the eyes also struck me before any Artisan qualities.

      Cheers,

      Barry

    • Gandhi is said to have been an Old Priest soul who had completed reincarnation but returned to manifest a still higher consciousness known as “Transcendental soul”.

  21. Hello,
I’ve been reading the post for the past few days and I am still kind of unsure of whether or not I’m a Artisan or a King or both. Is it possible that I am both because I see myself in both soul types?

    Reply
    • Hi there She’Ra

Yes you can certainly identify with a combination of the two.

In addition to our essential cosmic role or soul type, each of us brings additional energies into life. This is due to the way we are organised as souls, such that each of us has a unique “team role” as well as a primary essence role. This modifies how our primary essence operates in life.

In my case, for example, I am a Scholar. That is, my primary role in the universe is the type that is objective, studious, bookish, dry, etc. However, within my “team” (soul group), I hold the Sage position, so along with my primary thrust as a Scholar I also bring a Sage-like energy of expressiveness. This means that as a Scholar I like to acquire and share knowledge with an attention-grabbing sense of wit and wisdom.

Thus, we can sense more than one role within ourselves, though one will be predominant and the other will be secondary. Artisan primary with King secondary, perhaps?

    • Maybe? But I see the Artisan being the secondary and the King being primary. I am a artist who is dreamy but I have a strong face that looks stern most of the time.

  22. can someone please tell me who am i? i think i m artisan but not sure…and what is my soul age? 😀

    • Hi Cal. Yep, I would have said either Artisan-cast Priest or Priest-cast Artisan, and if you identify more strongly with the latter, then that’s a good indicator. Provided, of course, what you’re identifying is how you feel within yourself as opposed to how you want/hope to be seen – but I don’t get that sense about you.
      Cheers 🙂

    • I tend to be an introvert but when needed I tend to be an extroverted person. I love helping animals and people in need but I also love to sing and dance. I’m definitely an outdoors girl, and find myself in a book a lot of the time.

    • I was wondering if you could try to go more in depth of the casting. You said that I am a Server type and Sage subtype, and I would like to know more about it.
      Thank you.

    • Hi again

Well, if that impression I have of you is valid (bearing in mind I’m not a psychic) … Essentially it means that your primary way of being in life (as a Server) is with a sense of serving humanity. That is, your core drive, or the main effect of your presence in the world, is to help, to heal, to relieve unnecessary suffering. Servers have a sort of magnetic attraction to others’ pain, so that they can be of assistance; it’s like a hole to be plugged. This could manifest as simply as taking care of an elderly relative or your own kids, or you could be more out in the world working in hospitals, for example, or, on grander scale, working for a disaster relief organisation in Africa. The focus of service is entirely up to you and your free will. Also, in any given life you don’t have to make it all about serving (you might want to be a pop star, say), but because it is your primary nature it will probably end up becoming the main focus anyway.

The secondary aspect of Sage means that as a Server you have a distinctly extrovert, communicative side. The way you give your service to others is infused with good humour, wit, and occasionally wisdom. If you were to be put in a room with a bunch of other Servers, one of each subtype, you would all probably come across as basically humble, harmless and good people, but *you* would stand out as the fun-loving and chatty one of the pack.

      Hope that makes sense,

      Barry

    • Hi Rita

Not sure why this us, but I’ve noticed that those who get confused tend to be very clearly (to me at least) Artisans, and that is definitely how you strike me. Puppy dog eyes, random hair colours, composed look in the face… All 100% Artisan. But why the confusion?

      Barry

  28. Hi,

I have recentely started exploring the world of numerology & soul stages.

I have a question, and thought I might ask you.

With the different stages of soul… Does it coincide with numerology at all?

If so, will an old soul be allocated/ or adapt a certain soul number in numerology ?

And also I would guess you as a server.

Please feel free to email me.

Hope to hear from you soon

    Reply
    • Hi Trina

A lot of people ask me about numerology, but I’m afraid I don’t know the first thing about it. The numbers 1-7 are significant in the Michael teachings, though, as everything comes in sevens. For example, 1 = server, repression, stoicism, 2 = artisan, caution, skepticism, etc. In terms of soul age, numbers similarly come into it. For example, I am at level 5 of stage 4.

      Cheers

      Barry

  29. I just found your site today when I put in the search engine ” warrior soul”. I did this because I feel so empowered and strong when I e,brace the sense in my body and mind of a warrior. Not only the warrior of how I live in the world, but a warrior who’s strong and wants to face himself and all of the stuff on the inside that I’ve been running from. Which is why I search ” warrior of the soul”. Also, I embrace the king when I want to remain level headed and able to have compassion for others, forgive others when needed, but at the same time remain strong in myself, so that I can be and sounding board and support for others without getting enmeshed. I think about this stuff all the time. Would you say that my personality is f the warrior, or can it be a little of another role as well? Thanks, I love your site and the things you address.

    • Hi Caitlynn

My immediate reaction is/was Artisan, and a particularly warm and open one too, which suggests you have the goal of Acceptance. You look pretty unreserved with it too, so maybe mode of Passion. All making for a very heart-centred character, likely to be very popular.

I can also see the possibility of Sage too… So maybe you’re a Sage-cast Artisan (like, for example, Michael Jackson), or possibly you’re an Artisan-cast Sage. So the thing now is to look at your behaviour patterns.

Are you (a) generally a bit of a show-off, an attention-seeker, someone who loves being the centre of attention, chattering and telling stories (especially gossip), a crowd-pleaser, the bigger the audience the better?

Or are you (b) not quite so full-on extrovert, maybe more in the middle between introvert and extrovert, with a playful and sometimes over-active imagination, with your attention rapidly switching all over the place, and with a special interest in how different things might look in new combinations (eg clothes)?

You can probably relate to both to some extent, but which one is more predominant and ‘natural’ for you? If (a), then you’re most likely a Sage, if (b) then you’re most likely an Artisan.

      Hope that helps!!

      Cheers,

      ~ Barry

      .

    • Most definitely not A. haha. I actually don’t get along with that type of personality and the idea of being such causes anxiety within me. The only typical part of the Sage personality that I may connect with would be that I’ve been described as eloquent and witty by others.

So between the two, I’m more partial to B. I’m not opposed to meeting new people and I’m friendly, though I’m shy around new people. Usually because I don’t know what to think of them yet, or whether a friendship with them is something I’d like to pursue (I don’t trust people easily). It also doesn’t help that my self-esteem isn’t very high. I’ve been told by my boyfriend that I have a tendency to put on a tough front, as well, (I get a little…catty, for lack of a better phrase) and he suspects that it’s because I’m trying to convey that I won’t be walked on. It surprised me to hear that because it seems accurate. I’m a lot more vulnerable than I like to admit and it causes a lot of problems for me (mentally).

In terms of artisticness, I am and I’m not artsy. I’ve taken piano lessons, done Irish dancing, dabbled in art (mostly classes for school), theatre (also classes), and I have quite the urge to write a book. I love reading, mostly fictional.

But I can never stick to anything. I didn’t pursue art because I’m bad at drawing and deadlines or theatre because being on stage nearly gives me a panic attack. My piano teacher moved, so that was out of my control. But I didn’t pester my dad about finding a new teacher because I hated recitals. I lost interest in Irish dancing mostly due to mandatory competitions, though I was good at it and I have the medals to prove it. And as for books, I’ve probably started and never finished 20 books in my 20 years.

Speaking of books, I guess I can scratch that off with the response I’ve given! lol. I apologize for that. It can be easy to get carried away with things sometimes.

    • Artisans aren’t usually in-your-face performers like Sages; instead, they are more often like background mood-setters. For example, one might know exactly where to place a vase of flowers to create the right party atmosphere. But they also have an urge to “create” at least one thing in life, before they die, that is uniquely their own – to have their life make a unique difference in the world.

It might be worth noting that the Artisan creativity, imagination and “craft” are never limited to artistic things. Einstein, for example, put his Artisan mind into scientific thinking. Many turn their hands to practical problem-solving skills like plumbing. My own wife is a Mature Artisan who was born with a physical disability which has prevented her from ever making things with her hands in the usual artistic sense. She also has goal of Acceptance, so she has really channelled her creative/imaginative impulse into relationships, which is a key focus for Mature souls.

      B

    • Oh, yes. The arty things I listed off were things that I’ve done.

Maybe writing a book is the thing I want to create.

Do Artisan souls tend to be fickle or generally unsure about what they want to do with their life? Because it seems like I’ve gone from Zoologist, to lawyer, to chef, to psychology, to vet tech, to archaeology, to graphic designer and more over the past few years of my life and I’m still unsure about what career I want.

    • Hi there

      You can:
      1. Read the descriptions and see which internally resonates the most for you.
      2. Check out the description of the “typical” faces and see if you recognise yourself.
      3. Send me one (or better several) photos, or links to photos. I can’t promise anything; some people seem obvious while some people I struggle to get.
      4. Get a personal profile reading from a Michael channel. There’s a list at the bottom of my page on The Michael Teachings.
      5. Take the mini-test I set up at Quibblo:
