Your soul is your innermost being, your higher self, who you really are. And according to the Michael teachings, your soul will have one of seven distinct ‘vibrations’ or ‘tones’.

The Spectrum of Essence
When we cast light through a prism, it comes out in the form of a spectrum which we perceive as the seven colours of the rainbow. Similarly, when the Source of all being (God, the Tao, the Absolute, whatever you like to call it) casts its consciousness into the relative world, it comes out in the form of individual souls of seven types: 
What are the roles?
The word “role” refers to the fact that we each serve a particular type of function in the great scheme of things. We are all parts of a greater whole—the evolving consciousness of all-that-is.
Think of how every cell in your body is designed to play a specific role or function. And, although there are trillions of cells in the human body, there are only a few different types of cell.
Or think about all the stars in the cosmos. Although their number is so high as to be virtually infinite, scientists classify them all into just seven types, from hottest (type O) to coolest (type M).
Similarly, there are only seven types of soul. Which is to say, there are seven primary ‘roles in essence’ — seven ways in which the One becomes the many.
The names given to the seven soul types in the Michael Teachings are deliberately archetypal — hence somewhat old-fashioned sounding and not necessarily politically correct. The names are:
SERVER | ARTISAN | WARRIOR | SCHOLAR | SAGE | PRIEST | KING
The names reflect the natural purpose and proclivities of each soul type:
- Servers are naturally accommodating, caring, nurturing, hospitable, charitable.
- Artisans are naturally creative, inventive, imaginative, playful, decorative.
- Warriors are naturally forceful, loyal, protective, determined, steadfast.
- Scholars are naturally curious, studious, academic, analytical, neutral.
- Sages are naturally engaging, articulate, charming, entertaining, expressive.
- Priests are naturally inspirational, uplifting, motivating, energising, visionary.
- Kings are naturally commanding, assured, powerful, authoritative, decisive.
You are one of these. I am one of these [a Scholar, to be exact]. Everybody is one or another of these. All the 7 billion souls who are currently on the planet, plus all those who are currently are off-planet between lives, can be identified as one of these seven types.
Incidentally, you can often (but not always) tell someone’s soul type from their facial features. I have a separate article on this: The seven soul types: what do they look like?

The Proportions of Soul Types
The seven roles make up different proportions of the overall population. In percentage terms:
Servers = 25%- Artisans = 21%
- Warriors = 18%
- Scholars = 14%
- Sages = 11%
- Priests = 7%
- Kings = 4%
So, one quarter of the entire population is made up of Servers, while there are fewer Kings than any other type.
To illustrate this, think of a school class with 28 students. According to these figures, those students would probably be made up of the following: — one King, two Priests, three Sages, four Scholars, five Warriors, six Artisans and seven Servers.
Now here are some further explanations about the roles in essence.
A d v e r t i s e m e n t
The Nature of the Roles
- Roles are not assigned to us or imposed on us. They are who we are.
- There is no hierarchy. All roles are equal in value, and all souls are equally free. A King is in no way “higher up” or “better off” than a Server. The roles are simply seven different ways of being, seven ways of playing the game of life.
- A person’s soul type has no bearing whatsoever on that person’s station in life. A King soul will live just as many ordinary, hard-working lives as a Server. A Server has just as much opportunity to become a world leader as any King. In fact, the present monarch in the UK is a Server, as is the Dalai Lama and former US President Jimmy Carter.
- The roles are certainly not be confused with the Hindu caste system. There are similarities in the names used, but this is simply because the caste system is a tragic misrepresentation of the nature of the roles. Ancestral lineage and class heritage are human affairs that have nothing to do with actual soul types.
- Despite the labels used, no gender is implied. Souls have no gender. They simply choose between one or the other for each life to come. There are preferences, however. Priests, Sages, Artisans and especially Servers generally enjoy being female and often prefer it. Kings, along with Scholars and Warriors, tend to favour being male. (That said, the challenge of being female and the fight for equal rights can be very attractive to a Warrior.)
- Our soul type is often evident in the first years of life but then becomes masked to some extent by false self or false personality. This consists of cultural programming, ego, persona and so on — the superficial identity we all develop which has nothing to do with who we really are.
- Usually, it is not until mid-life that much of this false identity is broken through and our true essence comes to express itself more clearly. For example, a female Warrior in her late 30s who has so far been a stay-at-home housewife might suddenly find her true calling as a political activist. A male Artisan who has followed in his father’s footsteps in the armed forces might have a mid-life crisis and decide to become a poet.
- Whereas our soul type is permanent, everything else can change from one life to the next: race, nationality, religion, gender, social standing, profession. But the essence and consciousness will be consistent. For example, a certain Artisan soul might incarnate as a woodworker in one life, a choirboy in the next, then a housewife, then a wealthy wine merchant, then a child prostitute, then a female shopkeeper … and so on. Throughout all these human lives, however, the Artisan will still be innately creative and inventive, seeking to bring their fresh and original perceptions into being.
- I am often asked if it is possible to identify with more than one role. In fact, it is almost impossible not to. Here’s why: Casting — your soul’s place in the cosmos (and how it affects your soul type).
Our role in essence is our true nature, the part we each play in the cosmos. And, as the Michael teachings remind us:
NO MATTER WHAT THE ROLE OF ESSENCE, THE ESSENCE ITSELF IS COMPOSED WHOLLY OF LOVE.
Complementary opposites
Another interesting thing about the seven soul types…
Six of the seven soul types actually belong in pairs. Those in a pair share a similar function or specialism in life:
- Priests and Servers are both inspiration specialists, concerned with the well-being of others, serving the greater good, seeking to improve the quality of life for all.
- Sages and Artisans are both expression specialists, concerned with bringing ideas to life, giving form or voice to their inner thoughts and feelings, thereby changing others’ perceptions.
- Kings and Warriors are both action specialists, concerned with turning practical objectives into reality, making things happen, setting goals and moving towards them.
Scholars stand alone as the neutral role, and they are the assimilation specialists, absorbing knowledge from life. 
In each of the pairs (action, expression and inspiration), one is “cardinal” and the other is “ordinal“. Another way to put this is in terms of yin and yang.
The cardinal of the pair is yang: proactive, expansive, foreground, driven, and with a big-picture focus. The ordinal of the pair is yin, the equal-but-opposite complementary energy to yang: reactive, responsive, background, introspective, and with a detail-level focus.
- In the action-type roles, the King role is cardinal and the Warrior role is ordinal. To use a simplistic analogy, Kings embark on wars while Warriors fight battles.
- In the expression-type roles, the Sage role is cardinal and the Artisan role is ordinal. If all the world’s a stage, Sages are the witty and eloquent presenters of the show, while the show itself is crafted by clever and imaginative Artisans.
- In the inspiration-type roles, the Priest is the cardinal role and the Server is the ordinal role. If inspiration is likened to shepherding, Priests watch over their flock and lead them on to better pastures, while Servers look out for and tend to those in need.
The Scholar role is neither cardinal nor ordinal, but at the intersection of all the pairs. The Scholar is the only neutral type, the role being assimilation — absorbing information from life to create knowledge. At the risk of mixing too many metaphors at once, Scholars would be the ones who chronicle wars, record stage shows, and study sheep!
Positive and Negative
It is important to understand that we can manifest our potential in different ways. In the extremes, each role has a positive pole (+) and a negative pole (–).
- The positive pole represents the highest, most authentic and positive expession of the soul, the true self, which is a source of love, truth and freedom.
- The negative pole represents the lowest, most distorted and negative expession of the ego, the false self, which is a source of fear, illusion and malice.
For example, my being a Scholar means that I am the sort of soul whose role in life is to take information from the raw data of reality. Scholar has as its positive pole “knowledge” and as its negative pole “theory”. When acting in my positive pole, I do indeed serve a positive purpose by collecting and offering valid, useful knowledge. But when acting in my negative pole, I tend to get side-tracked by invalid or useless theories of no interest to anyone but me, and then only because my ego gets off on knowing more and more things rather than interacting with real life. You could say that the positive manifestation of a Scholar is being a knowledgeable expert and the negative manifestation is being a tedious know-all (…sigh).
So, the positive pole of any role leads towards true fulfilment of self and is of value to others. The negative pole leads to emptiness, frustration, conflict and alienation. Here they are in full:

| Priest | motivation (inspiring others to change up) | zealotry (overly fanatical) |
| King | mastery (absolute responsibility) | tyranny (absolute power) |
Relationships and Roles
Interestingly, the different roles do relationhips in subtly different ways.
- For Warriors and Kings (action type), relationships are a matter of fealty or loyalty.
- For Sages and Artisans (expression type), relationships are a matter of commitment.
- For Priests and Servers (inspiration type), relationships are a matter of dedication.
- For Scholars (assimilation type), relationships are a matter of involvement.
Channels of Input
We process our experiences through one or more channels of perceptual input. The number of channels we possess varies, depending upon our role in essence.
- Scholars, Kings and Warriors receive information through just one channel. This allows them to focus on what’s what, concentrate on the matter at hand, and think clearly amid chaos.
- Priests and Servers receive information through two channels. One is tuned to the immediate situation, and the other is tuned to, in the case of Priests, their sense of the “higher good”, and in the case of Servers, a sense of the “common good”. Hence, there is often a moral or ethical overtone to their conversations.
- Sages process information through three channels, while Artisans have five channels. With Sages, one channel is tuned to the immediate situation, one is managing their “act” or “performance”, and one is monitoring their audience. With Artisans, it is more a case of having multiple “back burners” making creative connections around the immediate situation.
While they are shifting their attention between their multiple channels, Sages and especially Artisans can appear to “tune out” the person they are communicating with. This makes Artisans in particular seem somewhat scattered, at least to non-Artisans. By the same token, those with multiple channels can find it difficult to accept the single-mindedness of Scholars, Kings and Warriors.

For a great book about the seven soul types, I recommend 7 Personality Types by Elizabeth Puttick PhD (Hay House, 2009).The book discusses the seven roles as seven archetypes. It begins with a questionnaire to help the reader identify their own type. There then follows a chapter on each of the types which includes lots of useful information on how they characteristically operate at home, at work and in relationships. Scholars, being the neutral role, can get on OK with anyone – so long as they are willing to come out of their shell. There is a natural affinity between Kings, Wrriors and Scholars – all share a single-minded, well-grounded focus. There is an affinity between Sages, Artisans and Scholars in terms of working with knowledge and information. Scholars also appreciate the “harmelessness” of Servers and the abstract vision of Priests. So, you can’t go wrong!

Not really, Zemmos. Soul type has nothing to do with body type, and many Artisans, male and female, use their bodies as their major vehicle of expression. For male examples of the strong and tough variety, think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Lee, Daniel Craig…
what if you are an artisan yet you are still interested in studying souls. what would that mean?
I am very Happy to find this artical and information! For over a year i have been facinated w soul types and have intuitivly been able to read and clasify them. I have been telling my friends that i can reed them primarily by looking at the face and sensing their aura as a color, (7 colors) and here is coincidentil affirmation of that! 🙂 I am primarily a Priest typ but also the artist type. Interestingly i have always felt like i was missing a twin brothe, that i was suposed to have a twin, but i dont. I have discovered the term Cymerism . (didnt spell that right) but it refers to the condition wher two zygotes beginin to develop in the womb but at some point one merges w the other and the developing embryo has two sets of DNA from that point on. This might help explain why i always have to different ways of thinking and feeling about everything. They arent opposite, just different. (priest and artist) I have learned to equally concider them both as well as equally concidering mine and the other persons perspective w the intent to illuminate the situation, affirm the others goodness and inspire them to the highest intention. What are your thought on this? 🙂

An Artisanly-Priest, eh? Well, my wife is a Priestly-Artisan so you two have something in common. For her, life is about creating something uniquely her own (Artisan) that will serve the higher good (Priest). As for myself, I am a Sagey-Scholar. For me, life is about acquiring and sharing knowledge (Scholar) in a way that is eye-catcing, fun and popular (Sage).
I’m interested to know what you see in terms of aura colours that helps identify soul type.

I took the test and it identified me as an artisan. I studied a lot of theater arts in high school and college, but I have since found that writing fiction is my true passion. Is this an expression of an artisan soul, or does it go against type?

Novel writing seems to appeal to souls of every type for a variety of reasons. For example, what motivates you? Artisans are generally driven to bring something unique into the world, to craft something that is uniquely expressive. I’m a Scholar, and I have dabbled with novel writing, but I always get stuck in doing the background research – it’s the research that grabs me more than, say, self-expression.
Another factor is soul age. Young souls tend to write novels so as to be successful within a particular genre, while mature souls are inclined to use novels as a way to say things about human nature or the meaning of life.
I’m a scholar. That’s pretty interesting. I would have figured maybe I would have been a sage but scholar makes sense as well. I kinda knew what I was going to be though after the third question. The first question was on the sage side I do believe. But yeah, last three were scholar all the way.
Maybe you’re a Scholar with a secondary type of Sage, like me.

Scholars = 13% globally (no separate figure for the US)

Priests = 7% globally (no separate figure for the US)
Kings = 2% globally (no separate figure for the US)

To respond to those who believe themselves two soul types, may I suggest that you possibly didn’t answer every question as honestly as you could? Each person has only *one* soul type, reincarnated over and over and over again until it decides it’s finished. The quiz specifies upfront the choosing of the statement which *best* resonates to you. Me, I’m a Scholar … no surprise there at all. Turns out I’m also an Indigo (Elder Indigo, born 1959) Old Soul, too … no surprises there either (except that I only learned I’m an Indigo yesterday, ferpetessake. Finally made my life make perfect sense.

Actually, funny thing about that is I’m positively sure there’s a strong likelihood that people would tend to have two typings, one being more expressive than the other. I say this partially because of information from another source I’d studied before this website and the Michael teachings, that categorized things a bit differently.

Barry might find some of their stuff interesting, although it seems a priestly-type soul might especially. Although soul-typing isn’t the website’s biggest focus, I remember an article they had on finding a person’s soul purpose that corresponded to teachings on the ‘seven rays’ from Ascended Master teachings.
Basically, it’s that there are seven God ‘flames’, or characteristics, and an ‘alpha'(yang) and ‘omega'(yin) polarity to each soul. Each soul has an alpha quality from one of the flames and an omega quality from a flame, usually different. Whatever the alpha/yang quality is would be the soul’s primary motivating quality that that person deeply wishes to express in the world, such as love, while the omega/yin quality usually functions as the mode through which they want to express the alpha quality. So like, an alpha->love and omega->truth would be a soul that’s essentially ‘loving truth’, who desires to express love by giving others truth.
There’s seven rays, or flames, like the seven soul types: Will, Wisdom, Love, Purity, Truth, Service/Peace and Freedom. I haven’t fully tried this yet, but I’m sure they probably map with the Artisan,Sage,Scholar,Server,King,Priest,Warrior types in some way. Service/Server and Scholar/Wisdom or Truth so far look like matches, but I’m sure it’ll take some thinking for the rest…
But anyway, the point was that it seems like for alot of people, it’s a case of a primary quality, with a secondary undertone present. And it seems the secondary one tends to be a mode, or flavor through which the primary one is expressed.
Like for example, further up, Thomas said he was like an ‘Artisanly-Priest’, which is expressing priest-like motives with an artisanly method. And Barry’s ‘Sagey-Scholar’, acting primarly as a scholar but in a very sage-like manner.

As an aside, I don’t know my soul type for sure yet, and I haven’t taken the test either, but I’ve been very artisanly and rather scholarly for much of my life, although extremely sagey as a young child. I’m 22 right now though, so it may take some deep searching, as my age-group is notorious for having many layered, outer personalities. But in a look back on things, I’ve always been a teacher-type person. Whatever I’ve learned, in any subject, I’ve found it extremely fulfilling to teach it to others, sometimes right away. Don’t know which type is notorious for this, if any, but yeah.
[ On the flip side to that stuff though, through some deep contemplation, I know my god-flame qualities are Alpha->Love, Omega->Purity. Purity actually maps to teaching in a spiritual sense. Energetically, a teacher is one who takes in impure energies and clarifies, or purifies them for the student and sends them back. Kind of like fixing perceptions and clearing foggy lenses. Or healing confusion. ]

Apparently im a scholar. doesnt feel right to me at all. I like knowledge, but right now this “realization” tickes me off for some reason. I hate school. Hate it straight to hell. How can i be a scholar?

Everybody hates school – even Scholars. Being a Scholar doesn’t mean you are “supposed” to enjoy being at school. It means you naturally enjoy accumulating/absorbing knowledge. Scholars are natural introverts (i.e. their flow of energy is more inward rather than outward to others), so in some ways school is the worst possible place for a Scholar. Having to be sociable, or stand up in front of a class, and hang out in a crowd of noisy kids is completely draining for an introvert.
I think i should have took the quiz before i read it because i think i might be being biased. From what ive read though I feel im more of a sage because I like to to talk…alot haha but i feel also i might be a server? Scholar? a combination? Im not quite sure but maybe deep thought will help me think.
Physical age might also be a factor. I don’t know how old you are, but the older one is, the easier it is to recognise one’s particular traits and enduring characteristics. Kids or teens will tend to refer to how they want to be perceived, or how they would like to be ideally, rather than simply how they actually are, day by day.
You are indeed as wise one! Yes actually I am a teenager. That is definitely a valid point, I tend to be like that and always find myself biased one way or another due to this reason. Thank you for the help though! Is there anyway for me to figure out what soul type I am?

I’ve said this before, but when I was twenty I would have assumed that I was an Artisan because I fantasised about being a famous artist of great genius. Looking back, though, I was a Scholar from day one. Again, it’s easier to see yourself objectively as you get older.

I have been interested in those spiritual beliefs for quite some time now, but, unfortunately, it is hard to find proper sources addressing this information in my native language. Luckily, I found this website… it is easily understandable, yet thorough. (Compared to other sites).
I have been trying to identify what type of soul I am, but this is really hard for me somehow. Maybe I am still too young to see it clearly (I am 23 now). According to the quiz I am an Artisan, but I was very undecided when picking an answer. I can definitely tell that I am not a King. And most likely not a warrior.
To identify my soul age seems easier to me, I believe I am a mature soul, but then again, I start to think “what if this…and what if that….”
For all I know, I could be a baby soul trying to identify with something…
I admire people who just KNOW, I wish I had that. When I was looking at the typical faces of the different soul types, I could recognize friends and family in it, even my boss, but not myself. Even though I have looked at myself in the mirror quite a few times, being a woman.

How about this as a mental exercise (not just you but anyone trying to grasp their soul role) – imagine you and six other people are taken hostage and locked in a room. It so happens that the seven of you are one of each type. The King type automatically assumes command, looks at all the options, figuring out how you as a group should act, keeping you under control. The Warrior instantly sides with the King and gets on with doing stuff, though he is more up for a fight rather than any subtle negotiating. The Priest feels like lecturing your captors on their wrongdoing, but also he will try to keep everyone’s spirits up with a sense of hope. The Server will want to make sure nothing within the group goes awry – everybody eats and drinks enough, wounds are tended to, the weakest is taken care of. The Sage will be have a captive audience (literally), and will fill the painful silences with entertaining quips and impressive anecdotes that help keep the group together. The Artisan’s inventive mind will be spinning away thinking and voicing all sorts of possibilities, positive and negative. The Scholar will be quietly taking it all in and spotting ways to occasionally apply his brain-full of knowledge.
I’m exaggerating and stereotyping here, of course, but see if anything in this resonates for you.
Ps – I look in mirrors a lot!
I’m a definite Scholar. I have always felt heartbroken at any loss or destruction of knowledge (Library at Alexandria, burning of Mayan codices, etc.) I hate suppression of knowledge. Always wondering what we used to know that’s lost forever.
I may seem a little weird here but in the last post about the mental exercise you suggested what came to my mind for some reason were the characters from the Wizard of Oz. I would definitely be the scarecrow and I’m pretty sure the other soul types are all represented in the other characters.

Just took the quiz and it says I’m a King. I was somewhat surprised as I expected the results to say I am a Scholar. Learning has always been easy for me and I am very quick and strong at logical problems. I generally am not the leader of any group unless no one else steps forward. I am usually quite content being an observer and coming up with solutions to any problems. However, loyalty and respect are very important to me and something I desire to receive from others. I also strive to be a person others would consider important and powerful. I am very ambitious and disciplined so is it perhaps possible to be a bit of both?
Hi Becky – yes, absolutely a bit of both. I have been asked this so many times now that I really should update my material to indicate that the primary soul type is modified by one’s secondary type, which is a bit like having an accent. You could be a Scholarly King (King as primary type with a Scholar accent or secondary type) as is a good friend of mine, or a Kingly Scholar.
ADDITIONAL: I have just modified the page here to add a a bit (ok, quite a lot…) about secondary roles.

According to some channellings, there hasn’t been a fresh influx of first-time souls for several hundred years. I don’t know if that’s true, but I think this would be a very difficult world for a novice to come into. First timers prefer simple “garden of Eden” type settings.
Two differnt people have told me I am one. I am devastated daily by the news, to the point that I haven’t had cable in several years. I keep to myself, and try not to pay too much attention to things that go on in the outside world because it all just sucks and makes me want to say screw trying.
I want to add, the quiz labeled me as scholar, which definitely makes sense in some areas. But only about half. And when it came to the question that had all of the soul negatives, unfortunately, every single one fit me perfectly. Lately I feel like I am floundering at life. Am I a bad person? I ask myself this. I don’t want to be, but..shit.
I asked about first timers because I’ve been told i am by two different people.

To answer an earlier question, no you are not a bad person. You, like the rest of us here, are a wondrous being of perfect love and goodness, who has volunteered to enter this state of physical separation in order to understand what being so good and full of love truly means through actual, lived experiences, experiences that come about through your own choices. You have chosen to be here in order to learn from the experience of making choices both “good” and “bad”.
So are you a first-timer as others have told you? Well, first timers have very little experience of making choices, and very little understanding of the world. They may have an innate feeling of being “in the wrong place”, but so do a lot of incarnate souls at any stage. Infant souls (as those at stage 1 are known in this system) have little or no experience of fitting in with the civilised world at large – from their perspective, life pretty much begins and ends with acting on their own impulses from one moment to the next.
An infant soul has only a rudimentary level of consciousness with little self-awareness and zero empathy for others. There is an overwhelming preoccupation with immediate physical concerns and instincts (hunger, comfort, sex), together with a terror of the world at large which is seen as confusing and threatening. There is little or no understanding of how (or why) to live in a civilised society where rules, respect and common decency maintain a relatively peaceful sense of order. Such things are baffling to an infant soul.
Does that describe you?
Or to put it another way… Do you have a conscience? Do you feel guilty if you do something that needlessly harms another? Do you comprehend and generally go along with ordinary civilised principles, such as not killing and not stealing?
If you are answering yes, then I seriously doubt that you are a first timer.
Another fascinating read! I took the test and it came out Artisan, which doesnt surprise me as even reading through the article first it is the one that makes the mot sense for me. But I also identify with a lot of the King attributes. Most of my daydreams involve me taking charge in a creative way! Or maybe I just like to think of myself in that way, but in reality would crumble at the prospect of taking charge and would rather be the one coming up with creative ideas? Hmmm, lots to think about!

I feel like the mixture of a scholar and an artisan
Actually it is possible for someone to have more than one soul. Only it isn’t good for your mental health. In fact I think it would either do three things. Make someone enter depression, go crazy, or even result in suicide. However there is a slim chance that having more than one soul could be better. However it is just a theory.
My initial thought was artisan, especially based on head shape. I am very creative in some ways, in others, not so much. The quiz identified me as a priest. I’m a little confused. I only share my views with those I am close with as not to be “judged” by some who are closed minded. Although, I am passionate with what I believe and feel frustrated when others do not understand. Anyway, great article. I just began reading the Michael’s Teachings w/in the past month and I have never read anything that makes as much sense. Thank you!!!
Go get a HUMAN DESIGN CHART on yourself as well and see if the results are the same. They are based on a combination of astrolodgy, the i-ching and kabbalah. . All this stuff just facinates me to no end… Now all we need to do is wake up to the implications of our actions towards one another.
Looking in the mirror I think I have the sage features, I found the quiz difficult as different characteristics resonated with me, the quiz suggests Artisan. But I’m fearful of attention and hate people looking at me.. I feel complex! Perhaps with time it will become clearer to me.

Hello Barry. I really love your work. May I ask you a question, please? What do you understand the term Metaphysics to mean? Are there many different ‘doctrines’ which aim to explain/teach Metaphysics in the same way there are many different ‘religions’? In that case, one can choose which one to believe/practice? It seems to me there are two key elements; the Universe and how it works and the human experience within the Universe. Your explanations resonate deeply with me as being absolutely right without being part of a doctrine. Do different providers of Metaphysics courses offer different ‘doctrines’? I’m very interested in your opinion on this matter and would be very grateful if you felt able to share your views.

Metaphysical simply means beyond the physical. Metaphysics is the attempt to explain the most fundamental nature of reality – not just the mechanics or ordinary life, but the very essence of “life, the universe and everything”. All religions teach some kind of metaphysical doctrine. The Jewish-Christian-Islamic concepts of Heaven and Hell and Creation are metaphysical doctrines. There are also some very formal and intellectual metaphysical philosophies, such as Descartes’ dualism. There are also numerous “spiritual but not religious” metaphysical doctrines which appear to be converging on a shared view based on the evolution of consciousness. Ken Wilber is a prime example of a spiritual thinker presenting a modern (or is it postmodern?) metaphysics. If there is one thing these spiritual doctrines agree on it’s that the physical reality we are so familiar with actually sits within a much greater non-physical reality, and that the non-physical reality is what gives physical life its true meaning and purpose.
There are dozens, maybe hundreds of different doctrines that disagree on certain points – but they seem to appeal to different people (souls) at different points in their own evolution. The doctrine of sin, Hell and eternal damnation, for example, makes a great deal of sense to Baby souls, but seems vaguely ridiculous to older souls. So you could say that each metaphysical doctrine serves a particular purpose – to explain life, the universe and everything in a way that makes sense at a certain level of understanding and with a particular cultural framework.

Your explanation regarding the suitability of a course for each individual soul makes perfect sense and addresses my confusion, thank you. I feel disconnected from both the content and the other students (although they are all really lovely) and I haven’t been able to understand why. It did occur to me that I was on a different page than everybody else (story of my life) and however hard I try I can’t re-engage. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at your site and it seems self-reliance is a key aspect of my purpose and that makes perfect sense to me now. I have qualifications going back nearly 30 years up to Masters level and not one of them has ever given me the degree of satisfaction I’d hoped for. Your body of work is the only one which has resonated deeply and has generated more answers than questions. Like a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much. In terms of spirituality, there has been a pattern of material turning up, within days, to confirm an insight I’ve had. It seems I have to stop ‘studying’ and looking to other people for answers, and start relying on my internal resources. I think the penny has finally dropped. This information explains behaviors to me on such a deep level, that I can’t find the words right now to explain the revelations and epiphanies that come to my realization.
While reading, I put 2 and 2 together and have realized that many marriages are of the King Father and the Servant Mother. With the King father working through positive polarity, and the mother having her power taken away.

If you are good at observing behavior and trying to understand it, you can clearly see how these roles are played by people, without their knowledge. You can see how they try to control situations, how they perceive loved ones and it roots back to the role they are playing.
The roles having a positive pole and negative pole is pure wisdom. The deeper wisdom lays within the notion that these roles are not just roles, but they are energies that we all tap into and use each day, no matter what role we are predominately playing. Service, Creation, Persuasion, Knowledge, Communication, Motivation and Mastery are all energies that are positively or negatively used daily.
With these teachings, one with a more “down-to-earth” mindset could perhaps understand this whole “God” idea as merely looking to the positive side. It could be understood that the positive pole of each energy allows for more effective human interaction as a species.
There need not be no “wacky beliefs” in some almighty father entity that judges or condems humans, but perhaps these teachings can bring about an understanding that there is a way for us all to go about how we interact with ourselves and the world.Thanks once again for providing this wisdom.

Hmm.. Always hard to get it right from a single photo. I met someone the other day who asked me the same question. My first reaction, based on seeing her striking cheekbones, eyes and mouth, was ‘Priest’. But after a very brief discussion, and seeing how she moved and spoke, it was soon clear that she was an Artisan, Scholar-cast, with mode of Observation and chief feature of Self Deprecation.
So my first reaction looking at your face is Warrior, but I’m not saying that with a high level of confidence! You appear to have a firm, focused expression like a Warrior. But there is also a warmth and liveliness in your face which could be Artisan-ish.
I agree, it’s probably hard to see from one photo, or without meeting me in person. I did upload a few more photos for you to see, if that helps.

I actually think you are right on both counts; warrior and artisan. I’ve struggled with accepting my artistic nature for years, but I don’t know why. Also, I found your quiz (very helpful!) about soul types and it says I’m an artisan, too. I’d love to find a good therapist to regress me, as my guess is I struggled as an artist in the past and am therefore reluctant to go there in this life. Although, I suspect I shouldn’t avoid it for too long.
As far as the warrior look, I was told by a psychic once that I was a warrior before. She said I died trying to evacuate people from an area which got hit by a tidal wave. That explained the recurring dreams I’d had (which I hadn’t told her about at that point) about watching from a balcony as a huge tidal wave approached.
Another life she told me about goes along with the artisan type. I was a man who lived in Russia- sort of renaissance man. I wore a black cape, kept horses, made clothes, played music- a guitar or cello, and was popular with the ladies. Eeeww… 😉 In my current life I was doing well learning to play guitar, but had to give it up because I have to save my hand strength for my work as a massage therapist. I want to change careers to get back to my guitar lessons.
The next life I was told about was that of a shaman and chief’s wife in an Indian tribe. I guess this explains my call to therapy, but while I like helping people, I mostly treat massage as an outlet and artistic expression. But of course, when I saw the healer soul type I was curious about that. Doesn’t apply quite as well, even if my Briggs-Meyer/Keirsey type is Healer.
Sigh! I think that explains why I was torn as to my soul type. I actually identify with aspects of all of them. I will read about casts and chief features next and see what I can make of those now.

I think it’s interesting that the bluish purple color, which corresponds to the soul types “color spectrum” above for artisan, is my central color.
There’s also a lot of yellow ( I teased that I sounded like a scholar in another post). The green is because I currently work as a “healer”.
However, on your site page about reincarnation, there is another color spectrum showing the gradient from infant to old soul.
It might interest you to know that when I first read that article I narrowed myself down to somewhere between mature soul and old soul before seeing the color spectrum.
“Coincidentally,” the place I found myself on in that spectrum was the light green color. Furthermore, my favorite color has always been pastel green since I was just a little girl. Mint green, to be specific- not a terribly common color, around here anyways.
I seem to recall written somewhere on this site it says souls vibrate the color of the level they’re at. Hmmm. I love how things just all come together like this, don’t you?
No red to indicate the warrior in me, but in past aura photos from several years back, there was plenty of red in those. And auras can change with our moods, or so they say.

I’m female and a King soul. I’ve always known this somehow that although I am born within this feminine body and am quite lucky to be decently attractive, my attributes and mentality have always been that of a leader’s. I have always thought that in my past life I was male and it seems to me that life would have been easier if I was. the universe must either have a bigger plan for me or maybe this is punishment for a past life. Either way it’s hard to be like this powerful soul within a body perceived as vulnerable. It’s frustrating.

Imagine had you born with an ugly face (which off course is not in your case) then you could have thought it to be a punishment. I have never been interested in fame or fortune. Used to get into fights at school alot, but i still did well and got my degree. I am forever taking on what i percieve as injustices. Sounds silly but ever since i can remember i would make plans for how to deal with an attack of any kind. I drilled my sisters on an escape plan. Just in case! I often think about ‘what ifs’ and i have a little plan in my head. With me ending up the hero. I always thought they were illusions of grandeaur, but maybe its just because im a warrior? I also dreamt about coming back as an angel of vengence. No joke, i would imagin id been given the task at dolling out fair but swift justice on wrong doers. Anyway, im thinking that im definately a warrior. It all adds up – i have a bronze medal in korean martial arts and particularly good at archery and shooting sports. Im not keen on team sports though.

I do believe myself to be a scohlar, however, i also show signs of artisan, i like studying different personalities, i can read thought forms get a really indepth understanding of the person i’ll also try and act like different personalities. i’m quite popular and a good communicator, but i spend alot of the day thinking and studying, im both extroverted and introverted, i sometimes believe im two people in one body… I have a violet/indigo aura and i have alot of compassion towards well everything :/ i consider myself a mature soul seeing as i still dont feel at home everywhere i go.

Do the roles affect animals and other living beings as well or only humans?
Great question Wyatt. I had to look around various transcripts to see if this had been mentioned anywhere.
Short answer: No, at least as far as I can tell.
It is said that all animals on the planet share one great mass spirit spirit or collective life force – it’s the same “hive soul” that has been making all species of animals tick for millions of years on this planet. The exception to this rule are those species which have been ‘adopted’ as vehicles for individual souls evolving in self-awareness. (When individual souls are ‘cast’ as fragments of the whole, they select a species to use as their vehicle for life lessons as they go through the reincarnational journey. The species they select will be one of the most intelligent, capable of rational thought.) On this planet, that’s human beings plus the various cetaceans (whales and dolphins).
As far as I can tell, the roles apply only to ‘ensouled’ species like us, not the rest. Soul evolution requires individual interactions in different relationships (master-servant, helper-helped, victim-aggressor, and soon). It’s like, to kick this whole thing off, the life force has to divide itself up into different energies – Warriors, Artisans and so on- with casting adding more diversity to the mix, and personality overleaves even more so.
Despite all the above, it seems to me that some species can appear to ‘fit’ the roles. For example, dominant predators such as lioms and eagles seem somewhat King-like. But that is probably just a reflection of their archetypal ‘role’ in life rather than actually representing an essence role.
It is also the case that individual animals (especially pets) can pick up and ‘reflect’ the individual energies of their human companions, both personality and essence role.

I don’t mean to be a negative nelly but unfortunately I am extremely critical of this. It’s interesting, yes… Like astrological symbols… But this is just as much folklore as astrology and palm reading. There is no scientific evidence for these classes/groupings. I’m not just trying to bash, I can see how it may be spiritually interesting, but having someone with a PhD write a book doesn’t mean it’s true at all. This is simply speculation
Can’t agree with at all you there.
As a psychologist myself, I was wary when I first came across this framework which just appeared out of nowhere, in contrast to the decades of research — surveys, longitudinal studies, correlational studies,etc etc. — that have gone into the psychology of individual differences.
However, i personally found that the MBTI (for example) has given me little or no insight into human differences, while the Big 5 model of personality may be scientifically valid in the lab, but I have yet to find any practical value in it. But this system has proved its practical value to me on almost a daily basis, both for understanding/accepting myself and understanding/accepting others.
I cannot look at someone and quickly tell if they are, say, ENTJ (in MBTI terms), or mildly Open but highly Conscientious, say (in Big 5 terms). And even if I could, I’m not even sure how that would help me understand them and accept them much better.
I can, however, often look at someone and think, “Aha, i recognise here a Mature Warrior, and with overlays of Acceptance, Stoicism, and Observation, as well as obvious Impatience.” With a few exchanges I can test and validate (and if necessary revise) my assessment of them. Very often, I can soon appreciate exactly where an individual is coming from on several levels. i can see how they fit into the vast matrix of human differences. I can appreciate the sorts of inner conflicts and issues they probably run into. And I can appreciate what sort of relationship they are likely to have with me. This gives me enormous respect and compassion for them.
Plus. it relieves me of any ‘need’ to judge them or change them by proving them wrong just because they are not thinking/feeling/acting like me, which is where most relationships run into trouble.
As another example, virtually every conflict my wife and I have ever had has come down to us not quite understanding the differences in our essence types and personality overleaves. As soon as we can spot, for example, that I have slipped into the negative pole of my mode (perseverance), or that she has slipped into the negative pole of her role (Artisan), everything soon becomes clear, we can analyse the underlying stressors, and we can find the way back to harmony.
So all in all, this framework has been a fantastic resource for giving me an in-depth, positive and pragmatic understanding of the nature of self and others and how we interrelate. But then I would say that, being a Mature Scholar. 🙂
Barry, Honestly I can’t hardly accept the Michael teachings as having come from a Ouija board but the fact is the teaching truly resonates so I’m in conflict. I’m writing just to express my identification as a mature artisan soul. But as a level one, maybe two this life seems almost wasted. I’ve just stumbled through it. While I am so thankful to have somehow remained emotionally stable, I feel almost completely without direction. And the hardest part of this walk has been a lack of inter-personal relationships. My question is, how can there be so many mature souls and I don’t recognize any of them?

Some interesting points there.
First though, what’s wrong with a ouija board? It’s just a wooden device used to facilitate communications from one level of consciousness to another. I suppose ouija boards have a bad rep because they have been / can be used unwisely – but no more than, say, the Internet.
The people who first tuned into the Michael teachings were sincere and dedicated spiritual seekers who were looking for a genuine teacher via the board – they went through quite a few before arriving at Michael.
I’m curious as to why you feel your life so far to have been almost wasted. The lack of direction could indicate that you have the neutral goal, which I here call Contentment but others call it Flow or Relaxation. It’s essentially designed to live a life with no predetermined direction, just going wherever the currents take you, relaxing and allowing. It’s often seen as a “life off” after a particularly strenuous life. It can be great fun! If you happen to have this goal, but have been brought up to think that you MUST impose some direction and purposeful effort on your life, then you would certainly experience conflict.
Alternatively, is there something in you that has been repressed – perhaps in your Artisan creativity, or some other aspect of essence?
As for Mature souls – I don’t know where you reside, but that could be a factor. In my town they are very much the norm; Young souls are in the minority.

Thanks so much for your reply. Ouija boards definitely have a bad rep and besides that, are a heck of a difficult way to communicate! Anyway, I want to talk about me, as repugnant as that is, I would like some guidance. I’m 55, caught in the arrogance/self deprecation cycle, physically lazy but veraciously curious. Particularly fascinated with neuroscience and cosmology but still accomplishing nothing! My occasional bursts of creativity bore me, it’s all been done before! My MBTI is INxP, Enneagram 5w4, IQ 142. That’s for background info to address my question. Additionally, I don’t feel my life was suppose to have been for time off, I was suppose to get something done and I’m very frustrated for not having found what it was. Don’t read regret, read an urgency to accomplish this life’s work.
To the point -> I feel like I’ve spent my whole life trying to find people to connect to. I just keep trying and trying to make this elusive deeper connection both socially and romantically but without success. When I was younger, I thought people were excluding or withholding from me but I’ve come to realize they just don’t need this type of connection. When I say my life feels wasted it’s because I have let this need dominate my entire life. I can back off and have shallow relationships but that is honestly just a burden to me. I’ve wasted my life hanging out my emotional self trolling for connectedness. At this point, I’d just like to sever that part of my brain so I can discover or create something! One more thing, people don’t know me as my authentic self. I don’t really hide myself, I just don’t know how to be authentic in shallow relationships. Hence, my question on finding other Mature Souls to connect with.
I’ve added my FB pic to get your take on my presumed artisan face. I also want to add that I also spent the first half of my adult life on a spiritual search that in many ways is complete. I am spiritually content. Hope I don’t sound like a wacko. Thanks for your time and insight.

Sorry for the delay – I’m hideously busy with multiple things.
I wonder if what’s troubling you here isn’t just a higher calling, or at least a concern about your higher calling, but a “chief feature” (negative attitude / character flaw). The CF sits in our personality like an inner demon, serving blind fear rather than conscious love/joy. In a way, our life is a constant tension between our chosen life goal (eg Acceptance) which seeks the joy of higher fulfilment, and our chief feature (eg Arrogance) which seeks control over whatever the ego most fears (eg exposing vulnerability).
Often when one has the goal of Growth, for example, there is also a chief feature of Impatience. The person longs to get as much out of life as they can (Growth), but fears not getting it all done in one lifetime and so reacts aggressively to any external delay or frustration (Impatience). Well, that’s certainly how it is for me. The effect of the CF is to sabotage the goal with false fears.
What you describe, however, is spookily similar to my wife’s case. She is a Mature Artisan who has the goal of Acceptance (seeking contact, intimacy, community), but her CF of Arrogance has a distancing effect — few people live up to her standards in terms of depth of contact. Certainly it has been a lesson for my wife to “accept” that others can be unable or unwilling to give unconditional acceptance, without that equating to any sort of personal rejection.
It’s also the case that Mature souls are often plagued by an inner drive or wish to be completely understood by others. This is easy enough on the Astral plane (between lives) but very difficult while in human form. It can be such a disappointment to find that even the most open and loving of our friends can only “go so far” – the ultimate state of perfect mutual communion is always out of reach… (Unless you have contact with a late-level Old soul, such as Ammachi, say).
The issue of how to be authentic in superficial relationships is a classic Mature Soul headache, especially if the surrounding culture is more oriented to younger souls. You can take the risk of “just being yourself” regardless of what people think, but then find that a lot of people just regard you as a weirdo. On the other hand, if the occasional like-minded soul recognises and responds to where you are coming from, that could make it all worthwhile. But being an eccentric or outcast – rejecting the many for the sake of a few – is by no means an easy path.
I note (and celebrate) your spiritual contentment, but also note that you are approaching a significant review point in life. It is said that every 7 years or so we assess how we are doing with respect to our life plan. A couple of big reviews are at 28 and at 56. I don’t know if this is of any significance right now, but it may be worth bearing in mind.

It will maybe sound cocky but I can’t put myself just into one role. I read through your whole article and tried to attend the test you made for identifying the soul type, but I couldn’t answer a single question! I think that there are more soul types within me. Is that possible?
I also read the situation of the soul groups and that is not like that in my case. I can’t find myself with one soul type and maybe a role within a group.
It sometimes drives me crazy because I feel like I’m exploding because there are to many interessts I want to follow, a whole lot of things I want to do, creating some unique things, always searching for improvement, being always there for friends and family, can’t say no to my family and friends, learning a lot of languages of other stuff, motivating my surroundings, cheer them up, fighting for my rights and others rights. That is also how others describe me. I can’t put it in words how it feels but it’s sometimes really hard because I always think that I can’t fullfill myself.
So could it really be possible that I have a mixed up soul type?
Or is there another answer for this?

I am no expert, but I thought about this as well and I found some reasons why one might be able to apply multiple types.
First of all, being a woman on earth means being generally more nurturing, caring, and hospitable than men (I really hope I’m not offending any men now, who of course have really great qualities too ;-). Therefore, a woman might easily identify as the Server type, whether she is one or not. A way to identify is maybe a non-competitive comparison with others and an identification of how integrated and predominant those characteristics are through all aspects of your life.
Another confusion might come from what we strive to be or really want to see us as. I would love to be a person with a great voice, playing the piano and being able to paint wonderfully. But that I want to be this, does not mean I am. I really am not haha. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but I think it’s hard to really distinguish between desired and actual state, especially when you have a life goal that would stereotypically fit well with a certain type.
I believe I am a sagy warrior, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I am guessing incorrectly here ;-D

Well, several possibilities come to my mind. One depends upon how physically old and self-aware you are. A lot of people go through their teens and early twenties trying everything out, to see what works for them. Many young people are so wrapped up in these new traits that they can no longer see the real self.
This is exactly what happened to me between the ages of 18 and 28. I was putting a lot of thought and effort into creating a variety of personas to help me fit into, or stand out in, different social situations. I would be the loving son at home, the “scary anarchist” on the streets, the enigmatic tall dark stranger to certain women, etc etc. but I was unaware of the real me behind all this, making the choices. I made the mistake of confusing my external behaviour and public image for “me”. It was quite a breakthrough to rediscover the ever-present real me whose identity is not defined by my behaviours or habits but by the eternal uniqueness of my being.
Another possibility is that you have some strong overleaves (traits at the personality level) which are obscuring the more subtle truth of the inner you. For example, my mother was a Server but her outstanding traits were Dominance and Arrogance. Nevertheless, she was no King – the FOCUS of her Dominance was entirely restricted to how she provided for her family.
So, it’s possible that you’re observing yourself in action but seeing all these different surface manifestations – possibly goal of Growth,perhaps – rather than the innermost essence of you.
On that note, I would also take a look at the chief feature (character flaw) of Impatience, which is driven by a fear of “dying without getting it all done.” (I can speak of this from much personal experience!). With Impatience running the show, it always seems that time is running out so every opportunity to achieve, experience or serve has to be seized upon, almost aggressively, and in any case it is never enough because as soon as you start one project you are (literally) anxious to move on the next, and the next, and the next…
Well, these are some possibilities that come to my mind. I think you can be pretty confident that you are not a mixed up type. Everything about you was chosen by you with loving care for a genuine purpose. Whatever your combination of role, casting and overleaves, combined with such superficial things as cultural conditioning and peer pressure, you are here for a purpose. Around the age of 35 you will begin to let go of the cultural and peer “baggage” and get right down to the real you – what you are really here to do. Until then, it’s all about sorting the clarifying the real you behind the surface behaviours. Meditation can certainly be of use.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I live my life. When someone suggests I’m weird or crazy, I usually say, “all the best people are!” I mostly look at those who can’t be their true selves, or worse yet- don’t KNOW who they are- as sleep-walkers. And I can feel compassion for them.

I agree it’s no easy path. It helps me that my overleaf happens to be warrior.

Your message did not address me personally (e.g., “Dear Barry”), so I assumed you were addressing all readers in general. If you had specifically asked *me* to read your book and comment on it, I would probably have responded by apologising and saying that I do not have the time or energy to take on such a task.
And yet you seem to believe that, because you have left an impersonal comment on my website, I was then personally obligated to do as you wish; and now, having failed to do as you wish, you leave another comment (again, without addressing me personally) to complain about my failure.
I did, actually, look briefly at your book. I have not read it in full (and do not wish to do so) because about 50% of it consists of lengthy quotations from Shakespeare’s plays and other sources, which I found quite off-putting and confusing. It seems you have used Biblical and Shakespearean literature rather than empirical data or real-life examples as “evidence” to support your model.
Also, the book lacks an index, so I had to search through it manually for references to other psychological theories and models. I would like to know, for example, specifically how and why your model differs from the Five Factor Model or the HEXACO model or Rutter’s Temperament and Character model. (I did find one brief reference to the FFM.)
I did not take the SECUNMIR test so I cannot I comment on that.

I am wondering whether we can dream of our past lives. I have always been a very avid, epic dreamer, but some of them are distinctly alien to me. They just feel different than regular dreams, and often when I look in a mirror I am not myself. When I awaken, I feel as if I have revisited someplace I have been long ago.I would appreciate any insight you can give me on this topic!

Certainly, people are known to dream of past lives. It’s usually when there’s something going on in the present life that has some kind of emotional resonance with a dramatic past life incident. For example, you get together with a new boyfriend, but your soul recognises him as someone you once had a terrible life with (when, say, you were a poor old man and he was your young wife), and that night you dream of being and old man living in a hovel, arguing with a younger woman who wishes you were dead…
The difference between a past life dream and a ‘normal’ dream is that the past life dreams are usually intense, detailed and there is nothing surreal (like, say, a road turning into a river).

Hi Barry… Yes, this makes perfect sense. I can tell the difference between the dreams. One in particular occurred a long time ago, but it came back to me when I met a man who was really there for me when my husband died. It felt like some form of reunion between us… And an event between us was quite similar to the dream. Another dream I always felt was a past life memory was of my death. I was shot in the back, and felt my life force leaving my body. As it reached my toes, I woke up. It has stayed with me my entire life. A feeling of absolute bliss that took away my fear of dying forever…

I don’t even know where to begin! My mind is going a mile a second with questions, connecting the dots, trying to process everything I’ve been reading from your site for the past week and a half and just sheer excitement!.
Your site has been a wonderful delight that I wished I would have found years ago! This would have helped me understand a few things I’ve been tuning into and been confused about for years.
I’m going to apologize in advance for the length of this note, and the many questions I know I will bombard you with. I’m an extremely curious one that like for things to make sense.
I’ve found your site sometime last week through an internet search I was doing on spirituality and motivational quotes for day to day life, I do that quite often!
The bottom line is for the past few years I’ve become more driven and more determined in finding something more to connect/reconnect with. But here’s the weird thing that trips me out, this something/someone I’m trying to connect with is not anything/anyone new to me! At least it doesn’t feel like it. I have this feeling that I have history with this for lack of better words (thing).
I’ve experience this thing in a more physical way once in my life, I was fifteen years old and I was in a very dark place, I was depressed I felt lonely, abandon, I missed my mom and dad, I was not treated very well at my uncles house where I was living, so I had it I was just done! I had no reason to feel alive or wanted to live, I just felt tired… and I sat in the living room listening to this gospel album the only music we were allowed to listen to, has the song played I felt overwhelmed, I started to cry I prayed and felt nothing I called out Gods name and nothing, so I got angry at everything, and I stated ranting on about the voice or the presence of the thing I’ve always felt and simply said “you’re always so loud in my head you picked a fine time to disappear! Where are you! Answer me damn it! I’m all alone! And there at that moment not a second before and not a second after but right then I experienced calm, not just any calm but it was a sort of tranquility till this day I’ve never experienced again! And there I was in a middle of a light surrounded by other lights (if that makes any sense) but there was this light at the center with me or in me I couldn’t tell the difference but it took hold of me and hugged me and I felt the other lights hugging us? or me? which ever, and time stood still I thought of nothing all I felt was happiness, and the light said to me that I was never alone not for one day of my life that it is always there… and that’s all it said we just stayed there for a very long time, and then I felt it slipping away, I tried to go with it more like I wanted to stay forever! But it wouldn’t let me.
When I opened my eyes back up my cousins were all looking at me like I was crazy! Asking me where did I go? That they’ve been trying to get my attention for hours and I didn’t reply.

When I went to church and explained it to the preacher he said it was the Holy Ghost, I didn’t feel that way… it was something of a higher power, but I’ve never identify it has the Holly ghost.
And it’s trying to get me somewhere or to it, I know this sounds crazy and I’ve questioned my sanity as well! Lol and came to the conclusion that I’m not crazy! I just can’t explain this feeling at all.
I am 27yrs old and from the time I was about six years old I had a sense that I was not alone and that I’ve always had this guide helping me navigate, answering my questions, and just instilling this knowledge about things no one taught me, or anything I’ve ever read from the many books I read, I have never felt fearful of this thing, just felt weird that I can sense it! For example anytime I’ve felt stuck, confuse, or just wondering about what is my purpose? Why am I here? What is it I’m supposed to do with my life or anything of that nature.
I always get a reply back directly or indirectly, when it’s direct it feels more like a thought that comes over me and instantly I get the confirmation I was looking for, if it’s indirectly it’s though conversations with just about anyone! We can start a conversation about something that doesn’t come close to spirituality (NOT RELIGION) just spirituality, and the conversation will shift and I’ll start speaking and in the middle of me saying whatever, there’s always this interruption in my thinking and I hear (IT) or I would answer the question that I had by myself, but I would know it wasn’t an answer that was my own because over the years I’ve learn to identify (ITS) thoughts from my own.
I would smile and get this little warm feeling and I’ll always say you’re a funny little man. AND HERE IT IS AGAIN! Just now while typing I answered or (IT) answer something for me and I felt it! I’m calling (it) I’ve always tried to identify it with a name or a sex… and just a few lines up I said “little man”!! So I do think it’s a male just don’t know who!
This really freaks me out! I’ve tried to explain it to my parents, my friends and everyone has always said “oh child that’s just the Lord speaking with you”. There’s nothing wrong with them saying that, because for a long time I accepted that reasoning because that’s the only thing that made sense! I grew up in a Catholic church from birth to about 7 years old, this is the stage where I started figuring out who I am, what I like, and what I believed in, and at that age I told my father that I didn’t want to be Catholic and that I don’t want a first communion! I knew back then that I didn’t fit in there; I cared more for the ceremonies and rituals then I cared for the words, the words contradict themselves and that don’t sit right with me.
I’m going to cut myself of here and just start asking questions, because boy I can write you an entire book!! Lol
In a nutshell your website has put something’s into perspective for me, and now I’m curious to find more. Ironically two years ago to today someone was trying to get me to read something in regards to spiritual or soul vibrations, at the time it sounded very interesting but I never read the package the guy gave me…. Every time this guy would see me he always said my frequency is so loud and out of this world, and that I vibrate at a very high level that he is drawn to me, just to pick my brain! I thought it was a pick up line or something lol and just weird so I dismissed him and his booklet.
My first question is
1. What is a spiritual or soul vibration do you know? I tried to look it up and I still don’t get it.
2. Why can’t I find my exact soul type? I’ve read all the different soul types and I identify with each one of them equally is that weird?
3. Is there a reason I don’t feel connected with anything in this world?
4. Why is it that I can connect/ communicate directly with this spirit/soul thing?
P.S.
Please do not judge or think me crazy or stupid, this is the first time I’ve found somewhere I feel safe enough to express these crazy feelings and experiences.

Hi Roseberline, and again apologies for my late response. I hope my slowness hasn’t thrown a wet blanket over your excitement!! I’m so glad you like the site – I started it precisely so that people can gain insight into what are otherwise mysterious life experiences.
Ok, your experience of the lights/beings is really beautiful, and I’m delighted that you have shared it.
My suspicion is that you met your loving and beloved Guide and your soul mates. Between lives we exist in close-knit groups and we are guided by those who are more evolved than ourselves. It’s like, you and your best mates are in a small choir and you are being trained by an incredibly wise and loving choirmaster – that is your Guide. I once “saw” my guide under hypnosis as a very regal female, utterly wise and compassionate.
The intense feeling of being lovingly hugged and the words of calm and reassurance are very typical of the role our Guides (and soul mates) play in our lives. If you read about near death experiences or pre-life regression experiences, people invariably talk about being in a soul group and receiving wisdom and love from their advanced guide. The guide is usually someone who completed their reincarnations some time ago, so they know what we are going through and can give us insight and encouragement when things get tough. (That includes enveloping us with a sense of calm or peace I the midst of turmoil, if we ask for it.)
So,it’s not unusual that you have a guide – we all do! What’s unusual is that you seem to have a hotline to your guide’s presence, while 99.99% of people never have an inkling of it while on Earth. It could be that this is your life’s plan – that you at going to develop and use this connection with your guide to bring spiritual knowledge or energy through for whatever purposes – healing, illumination, etc. perhaps you will become a channel.
As for your questions:
1. Soul vibration can be interpreted at least two ways. First is that it correlates with Soul Age. In other words, younger souls are said to be “vibrating” at a lower frequency of energy than older souls. Think of it in terms of the spectrum of light, the way white light (Source, God, etc) can make a rainbow of colours, from red (lower frequency) to violet (higher frequency). Some can actually see this in the aura of a person, and apparently it is perfectly visible between lives – younger souls are reddish or yellow, older souls are green to blue, and guides are like deep violet or purple. The second sense of “spiritual vibration” would be in terms of intensity – the intensity of soul energy (joy, love, wisdom, compassion) that a person allows through themself. A Priest soul with mode of Passion is pretty intense, for example.
2. Identifying with multiple soul types… People often ask about this. There are several factors. (A) “Casting”, which is to do with the way soul groups are made up. See https://personalityspirituality.net/articles/the-michael-teachings/overleaves-the-structure-of-personality/ (C) being an Old Soul, which I suspect you are, you have already experienced most experiences and relationships one can have with the different overleaves and relationship agreements. For example, you may be a Priest soul, but you have learned many lessons about mastery, so you can feel somewhat king-like, or you have lived many lives of humble service, so you can also identity with the Server. In other words, a very old soul has been around the block enough times to know what everyone else feels like, and having learned most of the lessons that there are to learn, the differences hardly matter so much.
3. Not feeling connected to anything in this world… I can’t really answer for your case specifically, I can only state possibilities. One is that you are, again, a rather old soul for whom the lessons of life on Earth and our human dramas are simply becoming less exciting and interesting. You can see the finishing line, as it were, and part of you just wants to get it over with rather than hang about enjoying the scenery. You may only have a few more human lives to go, and are starting to feel world weary. Old souls can also see through the illusions and dramas that younger souls take so seriously, so the human world at large seems petty-minded and lost in weird concerns.
4. I suspect this being is either your personal guide, or possibly a soulmate who has moved on. Basically, someone you naturally love, trust and revere, the two of you having worked together for centuries. An elder being or fellow soul group member with whom you have an eternal heart-bond. And for whatever reason, you two have agreed to maintain a line of communication open while you are living this life. (This is rare. Most of us only contact our guides while asleep.) I would imagine you have some wonderful plan to make use of this contact, which (if it is not apparent to you now) will make itself more apparent to you as you get past the age 35-40, as generally happens to all of us as we tune into our life plans. (Basically, before birth we plan a task to be fulfilled in the second half of life; the first half of life is like a preparatory “schooling” through appropriate life experiences to get us lined up and ready to go as mature adults.)
